Hybrid Battery System Configuration - November 2025

This enhancement unlocks the ability to use equipment packages with hybrid batteries in Autoquote.

Summary

We've updated how EnergySage handles hybrid battery systems in equipment packages to ensure accurate equipment representation and pricing for both solar-only and solar+battery quotes.

This enhancement recognizes that hybrid batteries like the Tesla Powerwall 3 include integrated inverters, allowing you to configure packages that automatically display the correct equipment based on whether shoppers request solar-only or solar+battery systems. You'll also be able to set differential pricing to reflect cost savings from not installing separate inverters with hybrid systems.

This enhancement allows you to use equipment packages with hybrid batteries in Autoquote settings.

What's Changed?

Equipment packages now properly recognize hybrid battery systems and their integrated inverters. Key updates include:

  • Backup inverter selection: You can now specify which standalone inverter to display for solar-only quotes when using equipment packages that include hybrid batteries
  • Differential pricing capability: A new "PPW Discount for Hybrid Battery Quotes" field allows you to set reduced pricing for solar+battery quotes with hybrid systems
  • Accurate equipment representation: The platform now distinguishes between equipment used for solar+battery quotes versus solar-only quotes from the same package
  • Shopper-facing clarity: Added explainer messages on quote detail and comparison views to help shoppers understand pricing differences between solar-only and hybrid battery configurations

Why Did We Make This Change?

Previously, when you created equipment packages with hybrid batteries, our system didn't recognize that these batteries included integrated inverters. This created confusion because the platform would show conflicting equipment configurations—displaying a built-in inverter in solar-only scenarios, or showing a separate inverter alongside the hybrid battery's integrated inverter.

This limitation particularly impacted Autoquote and standard quote creation using equipment packages. Many installers were hesitant to include hybrid batteries in Autoquote settings because of inaccurate equipment representation.

Benefits of this update:

  • Fewer follow-up conversations: Shoppers see accurate equipment that matches what you'll actually install, reducing the need to clarify system designs
  • Faster sales cycles: Clear, accurate quotes from the start streamline the sales process
  • Autoquote confidence: You can now confidently include hybrid batteries in your Autoquote packages
  • Competitive pricing: Differential pricing ensures your hybrid battery quotes reflect actual cost savings while remaining competitive

How It Works

The new configuration process involves three main components that work together to generate accurate quotes:

Hybrid Battery Selection

When you select a hybrid battery model (such as Tesla Powerwall 3) in your equipment package, the system automatically recognizes that this battery includes an integrated inverter. The integrated inverter will be displayed alongside the battery in all solar+battery quotes generated from this package.

Backup Inverter for Solar-Only Quotes

After selecting your hybrid battery, you'll specify which standalone inverter to use for solar-only quotes. This backup inverter is displayed when shoppers request solar-only quotes from a package that includes a hybrid battery

The backup inverter should typically be the same model you use in your non-battery equipment packages, such as string inverters or microinverters, based on your installation preferences.

Note: This update does not yet resolve pricing and equipment display issues when shoppers toggle from battery quotes to solar-only views.

Differential Pricing (Optional)

The new "PPW Discount for Hybrid Battery Quotes" field allows you to set a price-per-watt reduction for quotes that include hybrid batteries. This reflects the cost savings from eliminating a separate inverter and its associated installation labor.

For example, if your standard solar-only PPW is $3.00 and you typically save $0.20/watt on installations with hybrid batteries, you would enter "0.20" in this field. Solar+battery quotes will then show pricing based on $2.80/watt, while solar-only quotes from the same package will use the full $3.00/watt.

What Action Do Partners Need to Take?

To take advantage of this enhancement, you'll need to update your equipment packages that include hybrid batteries:

  1. Access your Quote Package Settings through the Settings menu (admin access required)
  2. Select your hybrid battery in the battery selection area of each relevant package
  3. Choose a backup inverter to display for solar-only quotes when the integrated inverter isn't available
  4. Set a PPW discount (optional but recommended) that reflects your actual cost savings on hybrid battery installations
  5. Save your changes to apply the new configuration to future quotes
  6. Repeat for additional packages if you have multiple equipment packages that include hybrid batteries

While not required immediately, we strongly recommend updating your packages as soon as possible to ensure accurate quote representation. This is especially important if you frequently quote hybrid batteries or plan to include them in Autoquote settings.

What this vieo to learn how to configure your settings.

Where Will You See This Change?

This update affects how equipment and pricing appear across multiple areas of the platform:

  • Quote detail pages: Shoppers viewing individual quotes will see accurate equipment based on whether they're viewing a solar+battery.
  • Quote comparison views: Side-by-side comparisons will display correct equipment for each quote type
  • Installer dashboard: Your quote creation interface will show the new backup inverter field when hybrid batteries are selected
  • Autoquote-generated quotes: Quotes automatically generated through AutoQuote will now have the accurate inverter listed depending on whether or not the shopper requested a battery
  • Solar-only toggle on battery quotes: When shoppers toggle to view solar-only pricing on hybrid battery quotes, they'll see an explainer message noting that pricing may not be fully accurate and encouraging them to contact you directly for a precise solar-only quote

When Will This Change Be Live?

This enhancement is live now. The new configuration options are immediately available in your Quote Package Settings.

Important timeline notes:

  • Equipment packages can be updated starting today
  • Only new quotes created after you update your packages will reflect the new configuration
  • Existing quotes remain unchanged and will continue to show their original equipment configuration
  • There is no deadline to update your packages, though we recommend doing so as soon as possible for accurate quote representation

What About Existing Quotes and Autoquote?

Existing Quotes

Any quotes you've already created will remain unchanged. This ensures consistency for shoppers who are already reviewing your proposals. Only new quotes generated after you update your equipment packages will use the new configuration.

Autoquote Compatibility

This update removes the primary barrier to including hybrid batteries in Autoquote packages. With accurate equipment representation and pricing now available, you can confidently set up Autoquote settings that include hybrid battery options. This allows you to automatically quote more shoppers who request storage solutions while maintaining accurate system specifications.

If you've previously avoided using hybrid batteries in Autoquote due to equipment display concerns, we encourage you to revisit your Autoquote settings and consider incorporating these popular battery systems.
