Quoting Self-Consumption vs. Backup Batteries

You now have the option to list your battery offering as self consumption or battery backup.

For all packages created or updated after 11/12/24, you have the option to list your battery offering as self consumption or backup. Any quotes sent before this will not retroactively update and may be unclear if the quote includes backup or not. All current packages will default to backup battery.

You will want to review your packages and see if the correct battery option is selected.

How to: Build your new package

Step 1: Navigate to your packages (Settings > Your Packages > Equipment and Pricing > Add Another

Step 2: Build your package as usual. When you input your battery, you can choose to keep the battery as 'battery backup' or uncheck the box for a 'self-consumption' battery

Step 3: Save this package - now when submitting standard quotes, your battery will already populate as whichever option you chose.

How to: Add battery options to your custom quote

Step 1: You can configure your battery to be self consumption or backup-enabled in the custom quote view

How will this look to homeowners?

Our Energy Advisors previously told consumers to check with their installer if the battery would be configured for backup. They will walk them through the difference of the two options, and what is beneficial for their region and utility. They let consumers know that typically self-consumption batteries are less expensive, but will not provide backup in the case of an outage.
