What's changed?

Shoppers on EnergySage will now see a maximum of 4 quotes instead of 7. This applies to all marketplace traffic as of March 16, 2026.

Alongside this change, we've updated how our lead allocation algorithm distributes leads. Our matching system uses a quality-driven approach that weighs multiple factors — including customer experience, responsiveness, verified reviews, and track record — to determine which installers are matched with each lead. We've refined how these factors are scored to ensure more equitable distribution across the marketplace and to reward installers who consistently delight homeowners on EnergySage.

Why did we make this change?

Receiving up to 7 quotes was intended to give shoppers more choice, but in practice it often had the opposite effect. Shoppers faced decision fatigue, cluttered comparison views, and up to 7 separate installer follow-up threads — making it harder, not easier, to move forward.

For installers, a 7-quote match set meant intense competition in every lead, making it difficult to differentiate on quality, reputation, or value. Many high-performing installers reported strong contact rates but low shopper response and follow-through.

Reducing to a maximum of 4 quotes benefits all sides of the marketplace:

  • Shoppers get a cleaner, more manageable set of options and are better positioned to engage and make a decision.
  • Installers face less competition per lead, which means higher expected close rates and more valuable leads.

How it works

Each property will be matched with a maximum of 4 installers. EnergySage uses a quality-driven matching approach that weighs installer performance and customer satisfaction — not just response speed — to determine which installers are matched with each lead. Each match set is now capped at 4 quotes rather than 7.

With fewer quote slots available, lead allocation becomes more competitive. The installers best positioned to receive leads are those who consistently deliver strong customer experiences, respond promptly, earn verified reviews, and maintain a high project completion rate. What action do installers need to take?

No action is required. This change happens automatically on the back end.

That said, this is a good moment to make sure your profile, quote packages, and sales reporting are up to date. With fewer quotes per property, the quality of your profile and quoting behavior matters more than ever for lead allocation.

Where will you see this change?

This change affects the shopper-facing quote list and comparison views. Shoppers will see a maximum of 4 quotes when they log in to review their options. There is no change to your installer dashboard or quoting workflow.

When will this change be live?

This change is live as of March 16, 2026.
